Public Safety Firefighter (On-Call)

Closing date: until filled. Compensation: DOQ (depending on qualifications).

Position summary

Under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Director, Deputy Director or designated fire scene supervisor, the primary function of a Plainwell Firefighter is to protect the community from disaster situations, including house and building fires, and promote an environment of public safety within the City of Plainwell Fire Department’s response area. This position also participates in fire prevention and inspection activities, and training dealing with all phases of fire suppression, prevention, inspection, rescue and emergency operation. An employee in this classification also responds to emergency medical calls and participates in the maintenance of fire equipment, apparatus and facilities.

How to apply

Must be 18 years or older, with a valid Michigan Driver’s license and a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Living within City limits preferred, 5 mile radius accepted. Prior experience welcomed but not mandatory. Uncertified applicants must attend the next available fire academy. Details will be provided.

Community Development Manager

Closing date: until filled. Compensation: $56,000 to $66,000 DOQ (depending on qualifications).

Job description

This position plans, directs and coordinates the full range of community development activities including planning, building, zoning administration, code enforcement, economic development, which includes current and long-range real estate and land activities within the City. Works with the Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority and other stakeholder groups, to coordinate goals and objectives set by the City. Is the primary liaison to local businesses for the City to support local businesses and resolve any issues which may arise.
